ATC and Julliard
In January 2008, ATC launched a unique partnership with The Juilliard School, one of the country’s most prestigious playwriting programs. Artistic Director PJ Paparelli teams up with Juilliard Playwriting Program’s co-Directors Marsha Norman and Christopher Durang to annually select an exceptional student playwright who is presented two consecutive workshops to further develop their play of choice. An ATC artist travels to New York to direct a week workshop with current Juilliard students and alumni. Following a public reading in New York, the playwright travels to Chicago to further workshop the play with ATC Ensemble members. The program provides a unique dual workshop format for dynamic young writers to develop their new work in an Ensemble environment. Former alumni include some of the country’s most exceptional young playwrights including Adam Rapp, David Auburn, David Lindsay-Abaire, Stephen Belber, and Noah Haidle.
